Building Power for the People

More than 600,000 deaths from COVID-19, right-wing mobs attacking the Capitol, and the racist killings of Black people by the police are all symptoms of a democracy in crisis. Most Americans have long wanted change on issues like healthcare, policing, gun violence, reproductive rights, climate change, and economic equality, but a rigged system stands in the way.

Years of partisan gerrymandering, restrictions to the vote, unlimited money in our elections, and crackdowns on unions have made it impossible to create meaningful change. We must build power for the people and ensure our government works for everyone, not just the rich and powerful.

Who We Are

Democracy for All 2021 Action is a national campaign committed to building power for the people and making our government work for all of us. Our diverse coalition includes labor unions, think tanks, racial justice, environmental, reproductive health, and community organizations that represent millions of Americans. We are working toward implementing deep reforms in 2021 to unrig our political system once and for all.

Our Goals

We must pass the HEROES Act, H.R.1 and other reforms to:

Ensure full participation in democratic processes and address systemic racism in our voting structures

  • Enact Washington, D.C. statehood

  • Adopt automatic and same-day voter registration for federal elections (AVR and SDR) permanently

  • Prohibit voter ID laws

  • Implement redistricting reform

  • Secure Puerto Rican self-determination

  • Remove barriers to naturalization

  • Add additional safeguards to the process of implementing future voting reforms by restoring the Voting Rights Act and passing the Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA)

Conduct safe, fair elections in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Secure $4 billion from Congress to states

  • Expand vote-by-mail to all voters

  • Extend early in-person voting

  • Expand emergency voting locations

  • Adopt online and same-day voter registration

  • Protect the health of voters and poll workers

  • Conduct voter education campaigns

Empower workers and civic organizations

  • Expand protections to employees and increase the bargaining power of unions by passing the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act and enacting the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act

Root out corruption and special interests

  • Launch a small donor matching program

  • Reform the Federal Election Commission

  • Ensure transparency for all political spending
